Biography

Fedor Kurekhin (St. Petersburg born) is a Berlin-based independent film and theater director, artist, and writer. He holds a B.A. from Smolny College of St. Petersburg University / Bard College and graduated from the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts (Andrey Moguchiy Class). Working across film, theater, and literature, his projects frequently explore themes of dislocation, post-memory, war, Russian toxic masculinity, and modern absurdity. In his films such as the autofiction feature Getting Lost, the lo-fi spy project Samurai in Transnistria, and the experimental Trilogy of Letters and Territories he utilizes a raw, DIY aesthetic, archives, and AI to craft pseudo-documentary narratives. In 2025, he founded the independent DIY film company "Wrong Movement". As a theater director, he is known for his total lo-fi approach, often staging performances in non-theatrical spaces like forests, winter beaches, and rooftops. He also directed ceremonies for the Sergey Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Award. As a writer, Fedor is the author of several novels, including Disappearance, Men's Tears
